I'll Always Love You...

When you were too young to understand, you thought you grew up with a solemn man
You never questioned the things he had done, you still can't recall how it all had begun.
Early in life too many lessons were learned, and throughout the years too many pages were turned
The problems you faced made you run away, leaving was best, you were too scared to stay
Your father tried to teach you right from wrong, but the message was unclear to you all along
Unspoken words that never got through, that's when your father tried explaining to you:

I have no excuse for the things I've done, I can't make up for the past
And I can't tell you why good things just never seem to last
But I can tell you this my girl, you mean more than the world to me
You know I'll always love you, just look in your heart and you'll see.

Years had passed and you were on your own, things started changing now that you were full grown
Looking for love was the hardest part, you were looking for a man who wouldn't break your heart
Then one day someone mentioned to you, that seeing your father's what you ought to do
You felt in your heart it may be the last time, so you flew out to see him back in '89
The battle he fought with a bottle in hand, was tearing apart this one time solemn man
Unspoken words that never got through, once again your father tried explaining to you:

I have no excuse for the things I've done, I can't make up for the past
And I can't tell you why good things just never seem to last
But I can tell you this my girl, you mean more than the world to me
You know I'll always love you, just look in your heart and you'll see.

A year had passed and you were out of town, a message was left when you weren't around
You listened one time then for hours you cried, 'cause you knew in your heart your Father had died
Why has the bottle turned the final page? And why is he gone at such an early age?
The next couple years you were drinking a lot, but then one day you stopped and you thought
You looked real close at the things you do, and realized he gave one final message to you
Unspoken words help the pain to depart, and now you know the words that he placed in your heart:

I have no excuse for the things I've done, I can't make up for the past
And I can't tell you why good things just never seem to last
But I can tell you this my girl, you mean more than the world to me
You know I'll always love you, just look in your heart and you'll see.

You know I'll always love you...
