Fairy Tales...

I guess I understand just how you feel,
And I realize now that I came on too strong.
But know in your heart, the intent was real,
I just found out too late, that I read you wrong.

You touched me more than I have ever seen,
You even told me that I was "off the scale".
We talked of friends and romance, and what they mean,
I thought that fate was writing my own fairy tale.

But fairy tales don't happen to us every day,
From the sidelines we watch them as they fade away,
And before we know it, there's nothing left to say,
'Cuz fairy tales don't happen to us every day

I said, "I'd like to call you", and I asked you when,
Though I really wasn't sure just what I'd hear.
So when you said, "tomorrow, you can call again",
My heart began to melt, I smiled from ear to ear.

But when I didn't hear from you on Saturday,
I wondered what it was I could have said or done.
As the hours ticked so slowly, and they slipped away,
Those fairy tales don't happen to just anyone.

And fairy tales don't happen to us every day,
From the sidelines we watch them as they fade away,
And before we know it, there's nothing left to say,
'Cuz fairy tales don't happen to us every day

So I learned my lesson, and I paid the price,
But do these words I write only fuel the fire?
When chances come around, do we get them twice,
Or do we give up all our hopes and lose desire?

If you only knew how much you got my heart to move,
If you could only see the passion that I saw in you.
Was it too good to be true, but still I tried to prove,
I could write a fairy tale, that I could give to you.

But fairy tales don't happen to us every day
From the sidelines we watch them as they fade away,
And before we know it, there's nothing left to say
'Cuz fairy tales don't happen to us every day

No, fairy tales just don't happen to us every day.
