There
are several things to consider when you decide on a pond in your
yard. The most important three
are: location, location,
location. You
want to be able to enjoy your pond, but at the
same time you don't want it to be in the way so much that you are
constantly going around it to access other parts of your
yard. Let's face it, the pond is very enjoyable, but when
it's time to do yard work or if you want to have a barbecue in the
back yard, the pond can be cumbersome if it's in the way. So placement is very important,
otherwise you may not enjoy it as much.
Once you decide on a location,
then you have to decide how big it will be, how deep and whether
you plan for a water garden, a koi/fish pond, or a complete
environment. I started with a small, preformed liner of
about 65 gallons and then I decided I wanted some fish, so I
started digging. Eventually, I came up with the design I
wanted for the space I had planned to put the pond, and it all
started taking place.
Some equipment
you will need are:
-
Skimmer -
helps to remove floating debris.
-
Bottom Drain
- helps to remove sunken debris.
-
Pump -
external or submerged for getting the water flowing.
-
Biofalls/Filter

-
Liner -
preformed, or 45 mil rubber pond liner
-
Underlay -
protects rubber liner from sharp edges, roots, rocks.
-
Hoses,
pipes, fittings - to get the water from one end to the other.
