There's
a big difference between a Koi Pond and a Goldfish Pond, and I
chose to have more than just koi, and to also have plants.
Koi ponds are usually large, deep and have straight walls, while
Goldfish Ponds, like mine, have varying depths and plenty of
places for plants and large rocks. The various fish that
many people have are:
-
Koi - can grow to over 2 feet
in length, allow 250 gallons per koi.
-
Shubunkins,
Comets - usually
from a few inches up to a foot, allow 100 gallons each.
-
Wakins - Can grow up to 14
inches, very friendly, allow 100 gallons each.
-
Chinese Banded Sharks -
Bottom feeders, they can grow over two feet, but take a long
time.
-
Goldfish, Fancy Goldfish -
usually a few inches in length, allow 100 gallons each.
Depending on your area, you may
be able to keep your fish in your pond all year long. If you
have freezing temperatures, it's best to talk to locals in your
area and find out if they bring their fish inside during the
colder winter months, some fish can't survive.
